Piano with Soul

Piano Lessons in Eltham & Online

Individualised piano lessons for children, teens and adults in Eltham, North East Melbourne and online via Zoom.

At Piano With Soul, learning music is about more than reading notes or passing exams. It’s about creating a calm, supportive environment where students feel safe to learn, express themselves and build genuine confidence through music.

Because when the nervous system feels calm and supported, learning happens naturally.

Piano lessons that nurture confidence, creativity and connection.

All people are musical.

Music is not reserved for the naturally gifted.

Creativity, rhythm, expression and musical connection exist within all of us. Sometimes people simply need the right environment for those abilities to emerge.

Piano With Soul combines strong technical foundations with emotionally intelligent teaching that supports the whole person — not just performance outcomes.

Lessons are designed to help students:

  • build confidence

  • strengthen focus and listening

  • develop musical literacy and technique

  • feel emotionally safe while learning

  • connect with creativity in a meaningful way

This is music education that values both skill development and wellbeing.

Lessons designed for real people and real learning styles.

Neurodivergent & Sensitive Learners

Piano With Soul supports many students who benefit from gentler, nervous-system-aware approaches to learning.

Every lesson is individualised.

So, what is Piano with Soul?

Piano with Soul is a deeper approach to music learning that supports each person’s natural musical ability, creativity and inner confidence.

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all method, Kate meets each learner where they are: their pace, personality, gifts, needs and individual way of learning. Through piano, singing and creative exploration, students are supported to connect with music from a more authentic place within themselves.

In each session, attention is given not only to musical skill, but to what the learner is experiencing as they learn. This creates space for confidence, emotional awareness, resilience, joy and self-expression to grow alongside technique.

Piano with Soul gives each learner room to discover their own style, value their unique nature and develop a meaningful relationship with music.

The Piano with Soul Approach

Piano with Soul is more than learning notes, pieces or technique. Kate’s approach creates space for the whole learner: their confidence, creativity, emotional expression, natural gifts and individual way of learning. With more than 30 years of experience as an educator and mentor, Kate understands that meaningful learning often begins when a person feels safe, supported and deeply seen. Through piano, each learner is given room to explore what is emerging in them, whether that is musical ability, joy, focus, self-trust, composition, expression or a renewed love of learning.

More than piano lessons.

Families often describe Piano With Soul as:

  • calming

  • confidence building

  • emotionally supportive

  • deeply personalised

  • creatively inspiring

  • transformational for anxious or sensitive learners

Lessons can include technique, repertoire, improvisation, composition, singing or creative exploration, depending on what the student is drawn toward and what they need at that stage of development.

  • Yes. Adults are very welcome.

Some adults are learning piano for the first time. Others are returning after years away, sometimes after difficult or discouraging experiences with music in the past. Lessons are shaped around your goals, your pace and the kind of relationship you want to build with music.

There is no need to perform, prove yourself or arrive with confidence already in place.

  • Yes. Piano With Soul is especially suited to many students who benefit from a gentler, more attuned approach.

Kate works with the whole learner: their nervous system, confidence, sensitivity, learning style, personality and emotional experience. Lessons are not forced into a rigid formula. They are shaped with care, structure and intuition so the student can feel safe enough to explore, learn and grow.

  • Piano With Soul includes musical foundations such as reading, rhythm, technique, repertoire and listening, but it also makes room for the inner life of the learner.

That might include confidence, creativity, self-expression, perfectionism, sensitivity, emotional blocks, joy, focus or a student’s own natural musical direction. The lesson is not only about producing a result. It is about supporting the person as they develop through music.

  • Where appropriate, yes.

Some students enjoy having a goal such as an exam, performance or school music opportunity. Others are better supported by a more flexible, creative or confidence-based pathway. Kate can help decide what is most appropriate depending on the student’s personality, goals, readiness and relationship with music.

The priority is always meaningful growth, not pressure for pressure’s sake.

  • Lessons may include a mix of piano technique, music reading, rhythm, listening, singing, improvisation, composition, repertoire and creative exploration.

The exact approach depends on the student. Some learners need structure and step-by-step foundations. Others need space to create, experiment, play by ear, sing, move slowly or reconnect with confidence before formal learning can properly settle.

    Every lesson is individualised.

  • Kate meets each learner where they are.

That means paying attention to their pace, personality, interests, confidence, learning style, emotional state and natural strengths. One student may need more structure. Another may need more creative freedom. Another may need time to feel safe enough to try.

The lesson follows the learner with care, while still supporting musical development and skill-building.

  • Yes. Confidence is a central part of the Piano With Soul approach.

For many students, confidence grows when they feel safe, understood and encouraged rather than pressured. As they begin to trust themselves, try new things and experience success in a supportive setting, that confidence can extend beyond the piano.

  • Students absolutely learn piano skills.

Piano With Soul values technique, musical literacy, rhythm, listening, repertoire and strong foundations. The difference is that these skills are taught in a way that also respects the student’s wellbeing, confidence, creativity and individual learning style.

It is not a choice between skill and soul. The two can grow together.

  • A first lesson is a relaxed opportunity to meet, explore the student’s goals and get a feel for how Piano With Soul works.

For children, this may include gentle musical activities, piano exploration, listening, rhythm, simple playing and getting comfortable with Kate. For adults, it may include talking about your musical background, hopes, concerns and what you would like from lessons.

There is no pressure to arrive prepared.
